Part-time CFO
An experienced finance director, one to three days a week, to lead the finance function of a mid-market company, a subsidiary or a portfolio company without hiring a full-time CFO.

Not every company needs a finance director five days a week; every company needs finance leadership to exist. Between a financial controller doing what they can and a full-time CFO the company's size does not yet justify, the part-time CFO holds the function at the level the need requires: one to three days a week, over time, with a director's authority.
The format suits mid-market companies that are structuring themselves, group subsidiaries that must report to their parent's standards, and private equity portfolio companies whose value creation plan demands stronger finance than the organisation in place. Where recruiting a senior executive takes twelve weeks on average according to APEC, a part-time CFO from our community starts within days.
When to call on a part-time CFO
The finance function of a growing mid-market company
The company has outgrown the stage where an accounting firm and a financial controller were enough, without reaching the size that justifies a full-time CFO. The part-time CFO installs the steering, budget, cash and reporting, and prepares the day the position is recruited.
A group subsidiary
Monthly reporting to group standards, closings within the consolidation calendar, dialogue with the central finance function. A subsidiary of a few tens of millions of euros needs that rigour, not a full-time position.
A private equity portfolio company
Investor reporting, covenant monitoring, board preparation, cash plan. The part-time CFO gives the fund the financial reading it expects, without weighing down the company's cost base.
The transition to a permanent CFO
The position is created but not yet filled, or the new hire has just arrived and needs support. Part-time cover ensures continuity, then steps aside. If the situation is critical and calls for a daily presence, an interim CFO is what you need.
Typical part-time CFO assignments
- Build the budget, forecasts and cash plan, and keep them current
- Produce the monthly reporting to management, the group or investors
- Secure closings with the accounting firm and the statutory auditors
- Manage the banking relationship and financing
- Structure financial control and equip the function: ERP, e-invoicing
- Prepare a fundraising, an acquisition or a disposal
- Lead the accounting team and develop the internal successor
The rhythm is set at the framing stage, one, two or three days a week, and revised at each step: an annual closing or a transaction may call for temporary reinforcement.
The Bloomco approach
We select part-time CFOs from a community of 7,000+ independent consultants and interim managers, on the situation already handled: a finance director who has already run the finance of a group subsidiary or an LBO-backed portfolio company, with references checked with previous principals.
Framing happens with your leadership and your dedicated engagement manager, we send you a proposal of executives within days, the engagement letter sets the scope, the rhythm and the deliverables, and your engagement manager follows the collaboration over time. Our Paris, Lyon and Lille teams serve large enterprises and mid-market companies, working closely with our finance and financial control consulting practice.
Frequently asked questions
Part-time CFO or interim CFO?
The interim CFO holds the seat full time, in a time-bound situation: vacancy, refinancing, carve-out. The part-time CFO leads the function over time, at the level the need requires, one to three days a week. The two combine: an interim assignment can continue as part-time cover.
Part-time CFO or accounting firm?
The accounting firm produces the accounts and advises on compliance; the CFO steers: budget, cash, financing, investment decisions, relationship with shareholders. The two work together.
How much does a part-time CFO cost?
At Bloomco, executive functions range from €1,500 to €1,800 per day. At two days a week, the annual cost stays below that of a full-time salaried CFO, employer costs included, for greater seniority. Our day rate barometer details the ranges.
What commitment over time?
A part-time collaboration runs over time, in renewable periods, with a notice period set in the engagement letter. The weekly rhythm is revised with the activity.
Can a part-time CFO represent the company with banks and investors?
Yes, within the scope of delegation set at the framing stage with leadership; it is often one of the first contributions expected.
