Interim management for post-acquisition integration and carve-outs
Interim executives, operational within days, to integrate an acquisition, carve out a business ahead of a disposal and hold the deal timetable.

An acquisition is decided in a few months; its value creation is won or lost in the hundred days after signing. That is when organisations are most exposed: anxious teams, customers courted by competitors, systems that do not talk to each other, duplicated support functions.
Transformation and M&A assignments accounted for 25% of interim management assignments signed in the first half of 2025 according to the France Transition barometer. The reason is structural: these operations call on skills the company will no longer need once the deal closes, on a contractual timetable that cannot absorb the delay of a recruitment.
The situations that call for an interim executive
Post-acquisition integration
Harmonising organisations, processes, systems and employment terms, without losing the talent and customers that made the target valuable. An interim executive leads the integration with an authority recognised on both sides, because they belong to neither.
A carve-out ahead of a disposal
Carving out a business, building its standalone support functions, separating its systems and data, negotiating transitional service agreements with the seller. The timetable is set by the sale contract; every delay has a direct cost.
Merging entities
Two subsidiaries, two networks or two head offices to combine: target organisation chart, site rationalisation, harmonisation of employment terms. The work is as human as it is technical, and often calls for a pairing between an integration leader and an interim HR director.
Preparing a disposal
Putting the financial information in order, firming up the reporting, preparing the data rooms and the answers to due diligence. An interim executive secures that work while management keeps running the business.
Typical assignments
- Set up the integration office: governance, workstreams, milestones, reporting to management and the shareholder
- Design and roll out the target organisation, protecting key teams and customers
- Harmonise the support functions: finance, HR, information systems, procurement
- Lead the carve-out of a business and manage the transitional service agreements
- Prepare the financial and operational elements of a disposal
- Transfer the reins to the permanent organisation at the end of the operation
Depending on the scope, the mandate goes to an interim transformation director, to an interim CFO for the financial side, or to an interim CIO when separating the systems is critical.
The Bloomco approach
We present executives who have already led integrations or carve-outs of comparable size, and whose references we have checked with previous principals: executive teams, finance leadership or investment funds. On these operations, experience of the sequence matters more than knowledge of the sector.
Framing with management and the deal's advisers, two to three profiles within days, an engagement letter aligned with the contractual timetable, and a Bloomco lead through to the transfer. When the need is about designing the target organisation rather than leading the operation, our organisation consulting offering takes over.
Frequently asked questions
When should the interim executive come in?
Ideally before signing, to prepare the hundred-day plan. Failing that, from closing: the first weeks determine the retention of teams and customers.
Who owns the integration, the acquirer or the target?
An interim executive has the advantage of belonging to neither camp. They report to the acquirer's management and work with the target's teams, which makes the sensitive trade-offs easier.
What budget should you plan for?
The market's average billed rate stands at €1,333 per day excluding VAT according to France Transition. Against the value at stake in an acquisition, the cost of leadership remains marginal. See our day rate barometer.
